Kingston Thunder Finalists at their Peewee Tournament
The Kingston Thunder Peewee squad hosted a tournament on June
18-20. Kingston opened the tournament defeating the Ottawa Royals. The Georgina
Bulldogs outscored Thunder in both teams second games of the tournament. The
next game had Thunder winning over the Lac St. Louis Cardinals. Thunder's
fourth game against the Guelph Royals would see the winner heading to the
championship game while the loser would be going to the consolation side.
Thunder fell behind 2-1 after a couple of innings but re-took the lead 4-2.
Matthew Brash pitched a brilliant game leaving the game due to pitch limit
with the 4-2 lead. In the bottom of the 7th Guelph loaded the bases scoring
twice to tie the game at 4. The first extra inning was uneventul but in the
top of the 9th Thunder loaded the bases scoring 5 to take a the lead and closed
down the Royals in the bottom half for a 9-4 victory. The Championship game
was a re-match with Georgina. Thunder starter Aaron Luchuk pitched well but
had to leave the game again due to pitch count. Luchuk had pitched the extra
innings in the previous game. With both teams tight for pitching a score fest
ensued. Thunder got a lead of 9-3. The Bulldogs clawed their way back to make
it 9-7 heading into the last inning. In the bottom of the 7th in exciting
fashion and with 2 out down by 1 run the Bulldogs hit a deep drive scoring
