The EOBA 10U Fall Travel team under the direction of Head Coach Ken Babcock had a memorable trip when they travelled to Myrtle Beach South Carolina this past October to take part in the Columbus Day Tournament at the amazing state of the art Ripken Experience baseball complex. Link to Ripken Experience. This group of 10U player representing Oshawa, Pickering, Port Hope, Peterborough and Whitby travelled two weeks previously to Baseball Heaven where they had a positive showing against US teams and then travelled to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina for a trip of a lifetime at the famous Ripken Experience. Although the team did not pick up a "W" in their three games in the tourney they represented very well. Their opening game they lost a tough battle to the Charlotte X1 Twins from North Carolina 11-7, before dropping an 8-1 decision to the very tough Chatlee Marlins from Sanford, North Carolina. In their third game they hung in their for 4 innings 3-3 against the eventual tourney champs from Lexington, South Carolina before falling 10-4. All in all the Ripken facilities with every diamond sporting state of the art artificial turf named after famous former big league stadiums, the practice facilities, accommodations right on the beach, behind the scenes special VIP tour of the Texas Rangers "A" Affiliate Pelicans Stadium, team special dinner night out at the famous Benjamin's Calabashi Buffet Restaurant plus other fun things made for a memorable experience and extended the baseball season past the long weekend in October. A program that is a growing directive of the EOBA with 5 different fall travel team age groups heading south this past year. Thanks to Scott Meadwell and Scott Moore for their efforts in Chairing this special program for the EOBA. Exposure to these kinds of facilities and competition is a great thing. It appears this program will grow again in 2012 and continue to provide an outstanding baseball and life experience for young players. |
