EOBA NewsKingston team's sweep weekend gamesposted June 9/08 The Kingston Ponies and Kingston Thunder both swept their weekend double headers. On Saturday in Senior division play the Kingston Ponies hosted the Ajax Spartans.The first game saw Kingston defeating the Spartans 8-3. Ponies starter Brett Gibson was trailing 3-1 to Ajax's Darryl Noble going into the bottom of the 6th inning but Kingston rallied for 7 runs. Gibson went on to strike out 4 of the remaining batters to get the complete game and his first victory of the season. Darryl Noble took the loss for the Spartans. In the second game Kingston scored 3 runs in the first on a 3 run homerun by Jed Vallier. The 6th inning saw the Spartans attempt a comeback when they hit back to back homeruns. The Ponies shut them down in the 7th with a game ending double play. In his first start of the season Ryan Babcock got his first win of the season, while Pat Robb got the save. Spartans pitcher Brad Binns took the loss. The final was 4-3. On Sunday in Bantam division play the Kingston Thunder hosted the Port Hope River Rats. The first game saw Kingston trailing to Port Hope 5-0 after the first two frames. River Rats starter Tyson Robinson pitched well holding Kingston to 4 runs over the first 4 innings. Port Hope then scored 3 more runs in the 5th to take an 8-4 lead. The Thunder answered back in the 5th with two runs and one in the 6th to be down 8-7 going into the 7th. Thunder starter Kris Grant reached his pitch count limit of 90 in the bottom of the 6th when on his 90th pitch he got a ground ball to end the inning. Kingston's Brandon Cooke came on to pitch the 7th for Kingston. With two out the Rats Dalton Sweet hit a deep drive in the right centre alley but was thrown going for a three bagger on a close play to end the inning. In the bottom of the 7th the first two Thunder batters Tanner Hoffman and Kris Grant both reached base safely. The River Rats then walked Keli Grant to load the bases. Cole Kaiser hit a line drive over the drawn in infield to bring home two runs to win the game; 9-8. Thunder's Brandon Cooke got his first pitching victory of the season. Starter Kris Grant had 3 hits and 3 runs. Game 2 saw Thunder starter Keli Grant going the distance. Grant struck out 7 over 7 innings for the complete game shut out. Thunder won the game 8-0. Thunder's Kris Grant, Brandon Cooke and Peter Dagres all added two hits apiece. Keli Grant helped his cause by going 4-4 and finished the double header with 9 RBI's. |
